I am excited to announce that I have successfully obtained Cyber Threat Intelligence Center LLC's Certified Cybersecurity Awareness Specialist certification!

About Me

Well hey there! Thanks for stopping by. I'm Jeremy. 🙂

My motivations for getting into this field are probably different than what you might think. Lots of folks want a good paycheck, but that's not enough for me. I come from a strong history in customer service and in Fire Rescue & Emergency Services as a trainer and teacher. I am TRULY passionate about helping people. It's the most fulfilling work in the world, and it's my calling. I'm enthusiastically and continually developing my skills in IT and cybersecurity to extend my capabilities in helping others, and enjoying myself along the way!

Regarding my career in Emergency Services, I hold the following 21 credentials:

When I decided to drill down into my life-long interest of technology as a career option, I began with exploring software and web development, but I wasn't quite connecting with the work. I needed to find my "why." Further exploration of the field led me to cybersecurity, which was clearly in alignment with my values. There are easy parallels between being a firefighter and first responder to being a cybersecurity professional. Incident response? I do it all the time. Helping people and keeping them safe? I've been doing that since 2014. Breaking stuff and having to fix it? Firefighters can break anything that's not supposed to be breakable. A decade of doing that work, and the realization that I could do the same thing through technology, and suddenly I had my “why.”

As I build my knowledge and skills, I also bring a deep and meaningful ability to bolster and build up those around me. I sincerely believe that spotlighting human value is what brings out the best in people. Companies can't grow and good business can't happen without people who are supported, heard, and engaged with the work they do. I am an enthusiastic leader and learner who brings these qualities with me into the teams I work with, and I look forward to embodying that at every step of my journey into the technology workspace.

Projects and Accomplishments (So far...)

🪛 The Macbook Pro Resurrection
🛡️ ICS2 Certified in Cybersecurity

Skills Deployed:

A lot of OSINT and research. The repair involved disassembly, soldering of wires to GMUX, use of lattice programmer to flash firmware of the GMUX chip using DMUX software in order to "delete" the discrete GPU from the motherboard, and testing of system to confirm that native display supplied from CPU was working. Special thanks to DosDude1 and Louis Rossman for making this project possible.

💻 Homelab Setup
🛡️ Certified Cybersecurity Awareness Specialist

I'm proud to have the opportunity to teach others the basics of cybersecurity after participation in Cyber Threat Intelligence Center's unique program. This training centers around teaching citizens of our local communities and organizations about the following topics:

  • What is Cybersecurity?

  • The Cyber Kill Chain

  • Phishing Prevention

  • Password Managers

  • Multi-Factor Authentication

  • Device Security

  • At-Home Devices

  • Wi-Fi Safety

  • Internet of Things (IoT)

  • Work Devices and Policies

One day I was sitting in a Fire Instructor certification course, minding my own business and taking copious notes, when my Macbook Pro display went crazy and the discrete GPU essentially broke, rendering me with no display and stuck in a boot loop! I decided to not only fix that, but teach you how to fix it as well! 🤓 Fair warning, some of my friends decided to be silly in this video, which was unfortunately out of my control, but I hope you can find the humor in it as I did. Enjoy!

In my initial exploration of cybersecurity I came across the incredible opportunity to take advantage of ISC2's One Million in Cybersecurity Initiative. Grateful to engage this "gate of entry," I obtained an in-depth view of the current landscape of the industry and dove into the following topics:

No self-respecting IT or cybersecurity professional should be caught without a homelab! Always changing, but currently configured with the following for various learning modalities and environments: (Some equipment specifics intentionally left out for security purposes.)

What's Next For Me?
My Road Map

I'm a proven self-learner and I have decided to use certifications and systems such as TryHackMe, HackTheBox, TCM Security, AntiSyphon Training, Security Blue Team, and many more to supplement my home-lab learning. These systems not only offer certifications, but also valuable hands-on experience with labs that are directly applicable in the workplace.

This is changing all the time! The following certificates/certifications are on my roadmap and I will attain their knowledge-base, whether I have the ability to pay for the exam or not:

A+ (CompTIA)

Network+ (CompTIA)

Security+ (CompTIA)

Pentest+ (ComptTIA)

Practical Junior Penetration Tester - PJPT
(TCM Security)

Practical Junior OSINT Researcher - PJOR (TCM Security)

SOC Core Skills (AntiSyphon)

Junior Security Operations - BTL1
(Security Blue Team)

TryHackMe SOC Lvl 1 & Lvl 2

TryHackMe Junior Penetration Tester

ITIL®1 Foundation

I am actively seeking and applying for industry-specific job-shadowing opportunities, internships (paid or not), and positions to broaden my experience and further solidify my foundations.

I will continue to volunteer in my community to increase cybersecurity awareness through training programs. I teach the Cyber Threat Intelligence Center LLC's comprehensive approach to hardening security posture, as well as deliver on my own awareness programs to help local small businesses and organizations learn the basics of Cybersecurity.

Human Value In The Workplace

Hopefully I don't lose you here, but this is important. I genuinely care about humanity. I've always been that way, and I've specifically spent the last decade of my life in service to my community as a firefighter and emergency medical responder. I still continue this work, and as long as I can do it, whether paid or as a volunteer, I will do so. There's something about being the person to respond and help others that is truly at the heart of who I am. If your company has a culture that is aligned around human value, inclusion, and equality, I believe we will be a great fit for each other. I proudly support others who are of different races, religions, sexual orientations, and any other various shades and colors of how humanity expresses in this world. No matter how a person shows up, I view it as my mission and responsibility to help when I can. For what we all may lack in skill at times, what we can do is meet the situation with heart. I am a proven and proficient learner, but sometimes technical proficiencies cannot answer life's quandaries. Human acceptance and presence can do more than we could ever write resumés or build applications to accomplish. What helps is a person acknowledging the humanity of a situation, and thanks to my time in emergency services and my desire to help people, that's an area in which I'm proud to say, "I can deliver."
